 Culture.mn reports Activities
to commemorate the 800th Anniversary of the Establishment of the
Mongolian State have intensified, with the National Committee
responsible for the anniversary celebrations recently undertaking a
progress review to assess the status of preparations.
Yet the level
of funding for the celebrations remains a concern. Although it has been
announced that a total of 20 billion tugrugs (US$16-million) will be
spent on the celebrations, some of the necessary funding has yet to be
obtained. Questions remain, in particular, about the feasibility of
completing by the original deadline the official memorial complex to be
dedicated to the Great Khaans of the Mongol Empire. (This complex will
replace the mausoleum of the socialist heroes Sukhbaatar and Choibalsan
- formerly situated in front of the Parliament building - which was
dismantled last autumn.)
To encourage private donations to the
"Great Mongolia 800" Fund, which will support the official activities
and events organized by the National Organizing Committee, a commission
of 10% has been offered to any individual not affiliated with the
Organizing Committee who is able to collect funding from two or more
donors.
In addition, providers of new products, technologies,
services or designs being introduced to the market this year have been
invited to make licensed use of the official 800th Anniversary logo,
for a cost of US$100 for foreign organizations or 100,000 tugrugs for
local organizations.
An exhibition organized by the Ministry of Road
Infrastructure and Tourism has been held over the past four days to
promote travel to Mongolia during the 800th Anniversary celebrations.
Meanwhile,
the UB Post reports that a 40-metre statue of Chinggis Khaan is to be
constructed on Tsonjin Boldog hill, 53 kilometres from Ulaanbaatar,
with private funding from the Genco Tour Bureau.
