The Mongolian Academy of Sciences has opened a technology incubator to create business opportunities by merging the academic sciences with Mongolian businesses.

Officials explained that the Ulanbaatar center will allow scholars and scientists to develop ideas to be brought to markets as viable businesses. The center will provide both the scientific and business knowledge to allow this to take place.

The purchasing and installation of scientific equipment for the center took nearly one year, at a cost of $598,000.

An opening ceremony center was attended by the first Vice Premier N.Altankhuyag, president of the Academy of Sciences B.Chadraa, director of the incubator center Ts.Oold, and others.

Nice idea, but ...
Who is funding the Technology Incubator Centre?
Is the increasing commercialization of science a good thing?
Will there still be funding available for basic research in areas for which there is no commercial partner available?
