The government has begun a
census to count the nation’s livestock.
Nearly 300 census committees
have been set up in soums of 21 aimags. Last year’s census counted
over 43 million head of livestock.
A breakdown of these numbers
found Khovsgol aimag had the largest number of cattle, Zavkhan had the
most sheep, Gobi-Altai had the largest population of goats and Arkhangai
aimag had the most horses.
Officials believe that since
livestock has not been affected by natural disasters or disease, this
year’s census will show an increase in the number of livestock over
last year.
