The Czech embassy in Mongolia has stopped issuing work visas to Mongolian citizens.
This follows moves earlier this year to return foreign workers from the Czech Republic to Mongolia. With rising unemployment, Czech officials created a program to provide a ticket home for foreign workers and pay them $630 cash.
Recent employment figures from the Czech Republic indicate, as of June 2007, there were 7,515 Mongolians working in the Czech Republic. Two years earlier that figure held at 1,900.
Besides suspending the issuing of work visas in Mongolia, Czech officials have also stopped issuing the permits in Moldova, Thailand, Ukraine and Vietnam.
Czech officials said this is a temporary suspension until employment figures improve in their country
