The much anticipated, and now heavily amended, anti-corruption law passed through Mongolia’s Parliament late yesterday evening.
The bill, which certain MPs have been fighting for, for many years,
will go into effect in November of this year, one month after the start
of the fall session of Parliament. Pressure to pass this legislation
has come from foreign governments, NGOs, ambassadors and a UN
anti-corruption treaty which Mongolia has signed. The Milennium
Challenge Account has also proposed for anti-corruption legislation to
be passed before qualifying Mongolia to be able to receive funds.
