Mongolia is moving to recover and utilize as energy the methane produced by the country’s livestock.

With some 36 million animals raised in Mongolia, it is estimated that nearly 325.7 Gg of methane is available for annual processing.

In an important step to recovering this energy, Mongolia has become a member of the Methane to Markets Partnership operated by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Climate Change Division.

Mongolia has announced it will seek cost-effective methane recovery technologies and use it as a clean energy source. The Methane to Market program will provide Mongolia with the methane recovery experience of businesses, scientific and industrial communities in the Unites States.

Supervising this program in Mongolia will be the Ministry of Nature and Environment, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Ulaanbaatur’s Governor's office, and other institutions.
