Progress in combating infant
mortality in Mongolia has been praised by the U.N. Children's Fund,
known as UNICEF.
In a report released Tuesday,
efforts by Mongolia to fight infant mortality have shown results, said
the organization.
Recently released statistics
show infant mortality rates in Mongolia place it at 34th
in the world in 2006, compared with being ranked in the 79th
position in 1990.
However, UNICEF was particularly
harsh about ongoing infant mortality in newly industrialized India.
The organization urged India to direct more resources to reducing infant
mortality, which placed India at 57th in the world.
