Tavan Tolgoi Mine MongoliaRussian Railways has announced plans to submit a proposal to mine the Tavan Tolgoi coal site. 

Igor Levitin, Russian Transport Minister and co-chairman of the Russian-Mongolian inter-governmental commission, said at a meeting of the commission that the Euddian railroad, the RZD "is due to submit its proposals by April 1. The issue is being finalized now."

Tavan Tolgoi, located in southern Mongolia, is 250 km from the Chinese border. The site is estimated to contain 5 billion to 6 billion tonnes of coal, 40% of it being coking coal.

Tavan Tolgoi (also Tavantolgoi, Tavantolgoy) is a coal mine (open pits) in the Tsogttsetsii sum (district) of Ömnögovi Province in southern Mongolia. It is situated at South Gobi desert. Tavan Tolgoi is 15 km SW from Tsogttsetsii sum center, 98 km E from Ömnögovi Province center Dalandzadgad. Tavan Tolgoi has been in operation since 1967.
